Much work has been accomplished over the past 30 years in developing the Hawaiian community's ideas and perspectives on Native Hawaiian sovereignty and self-governance. Today, the establishment of a new Native Hawaiian government is on the horizon and can be achieved with the will and support of the Hawaiian people.

  The first step in building a Native Hawaiian governing body is to gather a list of people of Hawaiian ancestry who are willing to participate in the process. This enrollment process has now begun, and you can use the registration form available here to kau inoa — place your name — on the list of those who will build the new Hawaiian nation.

The Kau Inoa Native Hawaiian Registration form requires documented verification of indigenous Hawaiian ancestry, but there is no minimum blood quantum requirement. Verification of ancestry may be made by one of the three following means:

  • Individual has previously submitted ancestry verification documents to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and/or the Operation 'Ohana program, or the Native Hawaiian Registry program of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
  • Certified copy of birth certificate(s), marriage certificate(s) and/or death certificate(s) indicating Hawaiian ancestry.

  • Kumu 'Ohana, or legally sufficient methods other than those listed above.
